Cape Cod Home Sales Fall in 2005

Kimberly Blanton from the Boston Globe wrote an artice in today's newspaper entitled "Cape Cod home sales fall in 05." The article states:

Cape Cod's housing market was hit harder by declining home sales than any other Massachusetts region, as buyers held back in hopes that prices for vacation homes would drop.

Sales of single-family homes on the cape fell 14.5 percent, to 3,986 in 2005 from 4,633 in 2004, according to final, year-end figures released yesterday by the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, which includes the first regional sales breakdowns.

Housing Tax Survey

On a recent survey, given a choice of simplifying federal tax laws or retaining the current tax incentives, Americans resoundingly prefer the latter according to nationwide survey of adults.

Two out of three survey participants (68%) favor retaining deductions for mortgage interest, state and local taxes over a plan to simplify the current tax code, according to the survey conducted by RT Strategies on November 17-20, 2005.

As a Real Estate Broker I hope this is a wake up call for Capitol Hill and the President's Advisory Panel on Reform, which has indicated a propopsal to wipe out the popular tax incentive that has promoted homeownership.
